The head of the Central Election Commission of Russia, Ella Pamfilova, released this Friday (25) the final conclusion of the results of the parliamentary elections for the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament. The vote consolidated the vast majority of the United Russia party and was marked by a strong presence of candidates who participated in the war in Ukraine.
According to 100% of the bulletins found, the government party United Russia occupies 349 seats, followed by the Communist Party of Russia, which took 37 seats; the Liberal-Democratic Party with 23; o “New People” with 17; and the “Rodina” party with only one position in the Duma.
The head of the Central Election Commission declared that, among the new deputies who were elected to parliament, 46 of them participated in the special military operation (the official name of the Ukrainian conflict used by the Russian authorities).
According to her, the candidates who participated in the Ukrainian conflict were the “most active during the electoral process”. Furthermore, Pamfilova also reported that the election campaign in Russia took place under “unprecedented conditions of escalating threats”.
The population’s participation in the elections also had an impressive rate, with 59.8% turnout at the polls, representing a higher number than in the 2016 and 2021 parliamentary elections. A total of 67,448,094 people participated in the election.
On the last day of the parliamentary elections, held between September 18 and 20, Ukraine carried out a major drone attack against Russia, including in Moscow. It was the largest attack on the Russian capital recorded in the entire Ukrainian conflict. In total, more than 1,600 drones were launched against Russian regions, with more than 500 aimed at Moscow.
Russian President Vladimir Putin declared this Friday (25) that Moscow was willing to reestablish negotiations with Kiev after the elections, but the leader stated that “Ukraine tried to carry out attacks on Moscow and attacked election points”.
