Ukraine carried out yet another massive drone attack in the Moscow region in the early hours of Monday (20). It was the second such offensive on the outskirts of the Russian capital in three days. Moscow also carried out bombings on the port of Odessa.
Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported that the largest number of injured victims (seven people) was recorded in the city of Domodedovo, which is about 50 km south of the center of Moscow. In total, 10 people were injured in the Ukrainian attacks, one of them seriously.
The mayor of the city of Moscow, Serguei Sobyanin, reported that more than 400 Ukrainian drones were launched against the Moscow region, but the majority were shot down at “long distances”, while 85 drones were shot down on the approach to Moscow.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, last night air defense systems shot down 385 drones over Russian regions. Air defense systems operated in the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Smolensk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan, Tambov and Tula regions, as well as in the Moscow region, Kuban, Crimea and over the waters of the Azov and Black Seas.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the attack in the Moscow region, saying the actions were a response to Russian bombings against Ukrainian cities.
“We have seen the results of our far-reaching sanctions against logistics facilities and an oil depot,” Zelensky wrote on social media.
The Ukrainian leader added that two oil tankers belonging to the so-called Russian parallel fleet and four bulk carriers were hit in the Black Sea. “We respond fairly to every Russian attack against our cities and communities,” the president added.
Russia attacks Odessa
Russia, in turn, also carried out intense attacks during the night against the Ukrainian city of Odessa. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed an attack on the region’s port.
According to the ministry’s statement, the attack hit “tanks containing fuel and lubricants destined for the Armed Forces of Ukraine”.
According to the Ukrainian Navy, Russia fired cruise missiles at the Golden Leo ship, flagged by Guinea-Bissau, as it left a Ukrainian port after loading cargo on Sunday night (19). Ukrainian authorities reported that ten people died in the attack.
