Daniel Almeida – Richard Silva/PCdoB in the Chamber

Established in 2015, the BRICS Parliamentary Forum begins this Tuesday (3), in the National Congress, with representatives from 35 countries, including the 11 members of the bloc. The news is the expansion of the group, which now represents 48.5% of the world’s population and 39% of global GDP.

At the beginning of the meeting, parliamentary women hold three meetings, with the following topics: female inclusion in the digital economy; The impacts of the climate crisis from the gender perspective; and the role of women in the strategic agenda of the block.

For Deputy Daniel Almeida (PCdoB-BA), president of the Brazil-China parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies, the event takes place at a time of strengthening the group.

“BRICS countries represent almost half of the world’s population and a significant portion of global GDP. This forum will discuss political, economic, technological and cultural cooperation between the global southern nations, in contrast to the hegemony of western powers in multilateral organisms,” he noted.

Daniel also says that the parliamentarians forum consolidates itself as a fundamental space for dialogue between parliaments of member countries.

“Brazil’s participation reflects the commitment to promote a more inclusive and sustainable global governance, strengthening ties with the nations that make up the block,” he says.

In his assessment, the Forum also reaffirms the role of Congress in parliamentary diplomacy and the construction of a more equitable and multipolar international order.

“We are committed to discussing initiatives aimed at the country’s socioeconomic development through strategic international partnerships. I can highlight the creation of the direct maritime route between China and Brazil, which will shorten travel time and foster bilateral trade,” he said.

Women

According to the Women’s Bench in Congress, the meeting of parliamentary women reinforces Brazil’s commitment to gender equity and offers an essential dialogue platform to integrate female voice with global decisions on sustainable development, innovation and social justice.

“Brazil has the honor of hosting such a meeting and can show the world experiences such as Minister Marina Silva on environmental and sustainability. We can also highlight the experience of Dilma Rousseff at the head of Banco do Brics, which has the mission to foster the economies of emerging and developing countries,” said Senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA).
