North Americans called the movement’s actions “unacceptable” and are in contact with Brazilian authorities
The MST (Landless Rural Workers Movement) stated this Thursday (13.Aug.2026) that the Juventude Sem Terra and the Popular Youth Uprising held a “intervention” in front of the United States Embassy, located in Asa Sul, in Brasília. The wall of the building where the North American representation is located was painted with graffiti.
The MST profile on X stated that it was an act “against the war industry and US imperialism.” It released images showing people dressed in t-shirts with camouflage prints and hats reminiscent of Uncle Sam. The members of the movement also burned what appears to be the country’s flag – it is not possible to know precisely from the photo.
In a statement, the US Embassy called the act unacceptable:
“The United States Embassy is aware of acts of vandalism on our premises. Such acts are unacceptable, and we are working with local authorities. The United States remains committed to engaging with the Brazilian people and ensuring the safety of our employees and facilities. Consular activities continue as normal.”
The MST also released a statement. He criticized the USA for the war in Gaza, for the action that resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela and for the conflict in Iran. He said that the action was the 17th National Day of Landless Youth within the framework of Fidel Castro’s centenary year (1926-2016). Read the full text at the end.
Civil Police and Military Police vehicles were called to the scene on Thursday morning (13 August).
Embassy staff erased the graffiti.

“Militants denounce the impacts of the imperialist policy of the North American government
“On the morning of this Thursday (13), the youth of the MST and the Levante Popular da Juventude held an intervention at the United States Embassy in Brasília, to denounce the impacts of the imperialist policy of the North American government.
“Carrying signs reading: ‘US War Industry = deaths, hunger and the destruction of nature’, the militants denounced the country that is responsible for approximately 42% of global arms exports to more than 100 countries (Sipri 2019-2023), dominating the ranking of the international heavy weapons market.
“Thus, the USA is one of the largest suppliers of weapons to Israel, which murdered more than 73 thousand people in the Gaza Strip in Palestine, where at least 21 thousand were children and more than 173 thousand people were injured. President Trump’s greed for imperialist power also left 100 people dead in the attack against Venezuela’s sovereignty, in addition to taking the lives of another 3,500 people in Iran.
“Thus, organized youth protest against the US arms industry and imperialist policies, largely responsible for the deaths of thousands of people, war, hunger and blockades and criminal sanctions against the people of Latin America and the world:
“’Defending the right to life, nature, peace and sovereignty of the people, with an overcoming of this society in the construction of socialism and human emancipation.’ – say the activists. The action is part of the 17th National Day of Landless Youth within the framework of Fidel Castro’s centenary year.”
