After missing the Chamber’s summons, the chancellor was the subject of a request for investigation for a crime of responsibility
The senator and president of the CRE (Foreign Relations Committee) of the Senate, Nelsinho Trad (PSD-MS), said this Wednesday (15.Jul.2026) that Chancellor Mauro Vieira must set a date to attend the session after the parliamentary recess, at the beginning of August. The minister was summoned to appear at the Chamber’s CRE, but did not appear.
“In terms of the Chamber, he was summoned. The Senate is another instrument. He was invited. So, I understand that he should respond to the invitation, because he has been invited countless times and he has never stopped going. So, for me it will be a surprise if he doesn’t go”said in an interview with Poder360.
Vieira chose to meet with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) at the same time. After the chancellor’s absence from Casa Baixa, deputy Marcel van Hattem (Novo-RS) asked the Attorney General’s Office to investigate him for a crime of responsibility.
According to Trad, there is an expectation that Vieira will respond to the invitation approved on July 7 and appear before the Senate. “I think that after the parliamentary recess, ending the month of July, entering August, he should set a date to be able to go there. At least that’s what is pre-designed”said the senator.
The members of the commission want him to clarify the statement that the classification of the CV (Comando Vermelho) and the PCC (Primeiro Comando da Capital) as terrorists by the USA implies a risk of American military force acting in Brazil. Vieira did not justify how he reached this conclusion. The statement bothered Lula himself, who scolded the chancellor.
