Rain floods subways, blocks roads and affects flight operations at LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy and Newark airports

A storm hit New York this Saturday (July 18, 2026) and caused flooding in the 5 districts. The rains flooded subway stations, blocked roads and affected operations at LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy and Newark airports. The United States National Weather Service warned of the risk of a tornado in the region.

The most affected areas were lower Manhattan, western Brooklyn and Queens, according to emergency services.

In Queens, the rapid rise in water levels left drivers trapped on several highways and rescue teams had to extricate them from vehicles submerged up to the height of the windows.

In the Bronx, the baseball game between the Yankees and Dodgers, which was to be held at Yankee Stadium, was postponed until Sunday (July 19). The game was one of the events impacted by thethe climatic conditions in the city.

The United States National Weather Service warned that new severe storms could worsen road flooding overnight on Saturday (July 18).
