Ukraine carried out a new massive drone attack in the Russian region of Novorossiysk in the early hours of Wednesday (12), resulting in at least three civilian deaths.

According to Krasnodar Region Governor Veniamin Kondratyev, around 60 residential buildings were damaged in the city of Novorossiysk, the site of most of the drone strikes.

Local authorities reported that, according to the latest information, three people died, including an eight-year-old child. Twenty-four people were injured, 12 of whom were hospitalized.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in turn, stated that the attack targeted air defense positions and the infrastructure of the port of Novorossiysk. Targets such as grain terminals in the city’s port region were also reported.

According to him, this morning’s attack represented “an unprecedented operation to destroy the Novorossiysk naval base — the last major outpost of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea.” Zelensky did not comment on the deaths of civilians during the bombing.

“Tonight, our defense forces carried out an unprecedented operation, attacking the Novorossiysk naval base — the last main bastion of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea, located more than 300 kilometers from the front line,” the Ukrainian president wrote on social media.

According to Novorossiysk Mayor Andrei Kravchenko, in addition to residential buildings, a primary and secondary school, a sports school and a college were damaged.

Both Moscow and Kiev have stepped up their attacks on cities in recent months. Meanwhile, negotiations to seek a resolution to the conflict, with Washington’s participation, have been paralyzed since the start of the war between the US and Iran.
