Minister temporarily restricted access to the residence where former president is under house arrest after Flávio read letter

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), denied this Saturday (18.Jul.2026) the request from the defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) for him to receive the president of Argentina, Javier Milei (La Libertad Avanza, right), on a home visit. Here is the full decision (PDF – 91 kB).

The request proposed the meeting for July 25, 2026. Milei will be in Brazil for the PL national convention and should participate in the launch of senator Flávio Bolsonaro’s (PL-RJ) candidacy for the Planalto.

Moraes suspended visits to Jair Bolsonaro for 30 days after Flávio publicly read a letter written by the former president. On the occasion, the congressman posted a message on Instagram “Letter to Brazilians” written by the father. In the text, the former president asks for votes for his son and designates the pre-candidate as his “spokesperson” in the dispute for the Presidency of the Republic.

In the minister’s understanding, the letter contained political and electoral content – which was considered a violation. Moraes restricted access to the residence where the former president is under house arrest to doctors, physiotherapists and lawyers.

Due to the same episode, Moraes had already interrupted, on July 13, Flávio’s right to visit his father, for a period of 90 days. For this reason, Flávio continues to have prohibited visits, even though he is registered as one of his father’s lawyers.
