According to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom, “in just 2 years, the covid pandemic destroyed a decade of progress in life expectancy”.

“That’s why the new pandemic agreement [que os países integrantes da OMS estão negociando] It’s so important”he stated.

The health authorities of the entity’s 194 members negotiate new rules to combat pandemics. They hope to update existing measures on disease outbreaks and forge a new treaty to strengthen the world’s defenses against future pathogens.

According to Tedros Adhanom, the new agreement could “not only to strengthen global health security, but also to protect long-term investments in health and promote equity within and between countries.”
