In a new decision related to the Vialidad case, the Federal Oral Court No. 2 of Argentina ordered the preventive confiscation of a set of goods and financial assets belonging to former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, including also the assets of her children, Máximo and Florencia Kirchner.
The measure was issued by judges Jorge Gorini, Rodrigo Giménez Uriburu and Andrés Basso.
The determination seeks to ensure the collection of 685 billion pesos (approximately 456 million dollars), an amount estimated by the court as compensation for the economic damages attributed to the State under the six-year prison sentence and the perpetual disqualification from holding public office that weighs on the former president.
The court order even covers an apartment located in the Constitución neighborhood, in Buenos Aires, the address where Cristina Kirchner is currently serving her sentence under house arrest.
The preventive blockade also includes a duplex, seven garages, an apartment and a warehouse located in the Madero Center Complex, in the Puerto Madero neighborhood, as well as properties in Recoleta, Buenos Aires region, and other assets.
Due to the high amount stipulated by the court, the magistrates extended the punishment for Cristina’s children, Máximo and Florencia Kirchner, requesting bank reports on their savings accounts and safety deposit boxes.
The measure issued does not contemplate the immediate execution or auction of the properties, nor does it modify their ownership at this time, remaining as a registration block to prevent possible transfers, encumbrances or sales until definitive confiscation.
Judicial sources confirmed that the resolution does not change the operational conditions of the former head of state’s house arrest in her current residence, while the former president’s defense has repeatedly questioned the technical foundations of the conviction, which they intend to take to international bodies.
