The President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, stated this Tuesday (11) that negotiations with Israel are “progressing”, but declared that “we will not allow Israel to remain, not even in a single centimeter of our land, nor for a single soldier of its army to remain on our soil”.
“There is no disagreement among the Lebanese regarding the objectives, from the Israeli withdrawal and the return of prisoners to the reconstruction of what was destroyed,” Aoun said, according to a statement from the Lebanese Presidency after a meeting with a delegation from the Maronite Institution for Propagation.
The leader added that the talks remain preferable to the “results of the destructive war waged against us” and noted that Israel’s attacks “have been reduced” since the signing of the preliminary agreement for the talks.
Aoun also said that slogans claiming that “what is taken by force can only be restored by force” have been heard repeatedly, but that “reality on the ground has proven this statement wrong.”
His comments come after the seventh round of talks between Beirut and Tel Aviv delegations in Rome last week, as Israeli attacks on Lebanon continue.
In this sense, the southern Lebanese who were displaced by Israeli soldiers continue to be unable to return to their homes due to the military presence and ongoing attacks by Israel.
“The time has come for the people of the South to rest and live in security in their lands, instead of continuing to fight wars in their name for objectives that are not Lebanese,” said the president.
Aoun emphasized that his priority was to rebuild the state, regardless of the cost, despite opposition from those who seek to undermine its foundations and impede its reconstruction.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that, since Tuesday morning, the Israeli Army has set fire to several fields and orchards in the areas of Sarda and Wazzani. The fires spread to the Wata Khiyam region, with columns of smoke flying over the area.
In addition, military vehicles also advanced in the city of Hadatha towards the eastern outskirts of Aita al-Jabal in the Bint Jbeil district, while Israeli forces fired machine gun fire at the eastern part of the city.
In another statement, the Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Public Health reported that an Israeli drone strike in the city of Nabatieh left at least two people injured.
According to the ministry, the area was the target of two attacks. The second hit a rescue team from the Al-Rissala Association, which had already arrived to help the two injured people, and damaged an ambulance.
Since the start of Israeli aggression against Lebanon on March 2, around 4,335 civilians have been killed and at least 12,227 have been injured.
