The war of aggression against Iran and the resulting deepening of the global economic crisis are taking a heavy political toll on President Donald Trump. According to a survey carried out by the Washington Post, ABC News and the Ipsos institute, released this Sunday (3), disapproval of the government reached 62%, the highest rate recorded in its two terms. Currently, only 37% of Americans approve of the Republican administration.
The survey was carried out between April 24 and 28, 2026, with a sample of 2,560 adults and a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points. The data reveals a continuous deterioration in the government’s image, surpassing the 60% rejection rate recorded in February.
Impacts of conflict and inflation
The survey details that the Trump administration faces negative ratings on issues that are central to the population. The conduct of the war against Iran is rejected by 66% of those interviewed. In the economic sphere, the scenario is even more critical: 76% of citizens disapprove of managing the cost of living and 72% condemn inflation control.
The economy in general has 65% disapproval, a negative historical record for the current occupant of the White House. Furthermore, two-thirds of Americans, about 66%, say the United States is heading down the wrong path.
The analysis published by ABC News establishes a direct connection between the conflict that began at the end of February and the drop in popularity. The military offensive caused a global crisis in the oil sector, raising fuel prices to their highest levels in the last four years, which severely impacted the purchasing power of the North American working class.
Political isolation
The data presented reflects the internal perception of the warmongering foreign policy and its domestic consequences. The rise in gasoline and food prices has been the main driver of popular dissatisfaction.
With six months to go until the midterm elections, the Republican Party faces a scenario of marked erosion. The situation indicates that the policy of international aggression and the disregard for social rights are being widely questioned by American society, generating a warning about the electoral viability of Trump’s project.
