Thirty -eight years ago, in 1987, the United Nations General Assembly for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) issued a resolution honoring Ho Chi Minh as a hero of national liberation and eminent cultural figure of Vietnam, highlighting his universal and lasting legacy.
The statement was made by the Secretary-General of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association, Pedro da Oliveira, in an interview with VNA On the occasion of the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh.
The 24th UNESCO session, held in Paris in 1987, adopted the 24C/18.65 resolution, noting that 1990 marked the centenary of the birth of President Ho Chi Minh, a national liberation hero and a great cultural man of Vietnam, Oliveira recalled.
Oliveira emphasized that this UNESCO Resolution demonstrates the great stature of the thought of President Ho Chi Minh and its contributions to the cause of national liberation.
The resolution also demonstrates the recognition of the international community to the great contributions of President Ho Chi Minh to the struggle of humanity against oppression and injustice, national independence and social progress, he added.
With many years of research on Ho Chi Minh, journalist and historian Oliveira said that on his journey around the world to find a way to save the country from colonialism, Uncle Ho has contacted people from different countries.
In this trip he also lived in Brazil for half year. In November 2024, during the visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Brazil, the unveiling ceremony of the 112th anniversary of the arrival of the young Nguyen Tat Thanh, a name worn by Ho Chi Minh, to Rio de Janeiro, occurred in a mood of great emotion, Oliviera recalled.
The plaque in honor of President Ho Chi Minh in Brazil is not only a historical place that marks its journey around the world, but also a special symbol of the connection between the peoples of Vietnam and Brazil, a symbol of international solidarity and aspiration for peace, inspiring the peoples not only of Vietnam and Brazil, but also from the whole world, said Oliveira.
“President Ho Chi Minh is a noble symbol of the indomitable will of the Vietnamese people over thousands of years of heroic history. He was a brilliant leader of the Communist and Global Labor movement, a close friend of peace -loving peoples and defenders of social progress around the world,” said Oliveira.
He stated that wherever he was, even where he had never been, ideology, humanistic values, ethics and personality of Ho Chi Minh, they have always had a strong appeal, spread powerfully and had a strong influence on struggles for independence, freedom, peace, justice, democracy, and social progress in many places around the world.
Pedro Oliveira is the author of the book “Ho Chi Minh, Life and Career of the Vietnamese National Liberation Leader” in Portuguese, who won the first prize in the Book category printed at the 8th National Award for Foreign Information in Vietnam.
