Homemade sour cream can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 1 week. It can also be frozen for up to 3 months, but may change texture when thawed.

To make homemade sour cream, you will need the following ingredients:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 1/3 cup powdered milk

Directions

  • Place the whole milk in a pan and heat over low heat.
  • Add the unsalted butter and stir until the butter is completely melted.
  • Add powdered milk and mix until completely dissolved.
  • Continue to heat the mixture over low heat, stirring occasionally, for about 20 to 30 minutes or until the mixture begins to thicken and resembles heavy cream.
  • Remove from heat and let cool completely before using.
