“Humanity today loses a voice of respect and welcome to others. Pope Francis lived and spread in his daily life, love, tolerance and solidarity that are the basis of Christian teachings,” lamented President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Monday morning (21). The president also decreed official mourning of seven days. The Pope passed away this morning, at the age of 88.

Lula also said that “as taught in the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, Argentine Jorge Bergoglio tirelessly sought to bring love where hatred existed. Union, where there was discord. And the understanding that we are all equal, living in the same house, our planet, which urgently needs our care.”

Humanity today loses a voice of respect and welcome to others. Pope Francis lived and propagated in his daily life the love, tolerance and solidarity that are the basis of Christian teachings.

As taught in the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, Argentine Jorge Bergoglio tirelessly sought to bring love where hatred existed. The union, where there was discord. And the understanding that we are all the same, living in the same house, our planet, which urgently needs our care.

With his simplicity, courage and empathy, Francisco brought to the Vatican the theme of climate change. He vigorously criticized the economic models that led humanity to produce so many injustices. It showed that this same model is that it generates inequality between countries and people. And it has always placed itself beside those who need it most: the poor, the refugees, the young, the elderly, and the victims of the wars and all forms of prejudice.

The times when Janja and I were blessed with the opportunity to find Pope Francis and be received by him with great affection, we could share our ideals of peace, equality and justice. Ideal that the world has always needed. And you will always need.

May God comfort those who today, everywhere in the world, suffer the pain of this enormous loss. In his memory and in honor of his work, a seven -day mourning decree in Brazil

The Holy Father goes, but his messages will continue to be recorded in our hearts.
