PCdoB lamented Pope Francis’ death in a message published on the morning of Monday (21), which emphasizes the position of the pontiff in defense of the most vulnerable and social justice.

“With deep regret, we regret the death of Pope Francis. The highest leader of the Catholic Church, the first Latin American Pope was a defender of the most vulnerable, marked the story with his compassion, commitment to social justice and for the attempt to break the conservative vision that was marking the conduction of the Catholic Church,” the party points out.

Finally, the message says that “your legacy of love and fraternity will remain alive” and remembers talking about Francisco in 2013, during his passage in Rio de Janeiro: “reality can change, man can change. They seek to be the first to practice good, not to get used to evil but to overcome it.”

The party’s president, Luciana Santos, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, also commented: “First Latin American and Jesuit Pontiff, Francisco sought to bring a message of simplicity, defense of the humblest and most marginalized, solidarity and struggle for climate and humanitarian causes”.

Luciana continued to say that “the Catholic Church says goodbye to its maximum leader shortly after Easter Sunday, time of peace and rebirth. May your life be inspiration and example for all of us.”

In the assessment of PCdoB leader in the House, Deputy Renildo Calheiros (PE), Francisco’s trajectory “was marked by the defense of the poor, the promotion of peace and the commitment to human dignity. May his legacy of faith, humility and justice continue to inspire the world. My feelings to the Catholic people and all who sympathize with this great loss”.

“He fought poverty, defended the minorities, fought advances and criticized the powerful who oppress and massacre the weaker – never losing tenderness and good humor. Pope Francis was an example of a leader in the conflagrated world we live. (PCdoB-RJ).

Bench companion, Deputy Alice Portugal (BA) also emphasized Francis’ profile as “defender of the poor, of peace, the first Latin American Pope was a modernizer of the Catholic Church. A moderating voice of conflicts and defender of social justice is lost.

Also deputy for the PCdoB of Bahia, Daniel Almeida pointed out that “the world loses a spiritual leader who, throughout his career, devoted himself to social justice and strengthening the values of fraternity and solidarity. In a world marked by inequality, he became a firm voice against injustices, proposing a church closer to the people and with a look at the suffering of humanity.”

Representative Nurse Rejane (PCdoB-RJ) recalled: “Pope Francis once stated that nursing is ‘one of the noblest professions’ and that nurses are ‘experts in humanity’. He leaves us a legacy of empathy, humility and commitment to the poorest and vulnerable.”

Deputy Orlando Silva (PCdoB-SP) emphasized that “his words and, above all, his example of faith, peace, love of neighbor and fraternity between peoples will be sorely missed at this moment of so many risks motivated by hatred and extremism. May God receive and look at us.”
