Search teams found the last victims of the accident on Tuesday (April 9) at a plant owned by Enel Green Power

The death toll from the explosion at an Enel Green Power plant rose to 7 this Friday (April 12, 2024), after emergency teams found the body of the last missing person on the banks of the artificial reservoir of Suviana, in Italy.

The accident happened on Tuesday (April 9, 2024) in Bargi, a city close to Bologna. According to Luca Cari, fire department spokesman, the search situation was difficult due to the “rapid rise in the water level inside the plant, which is located underground on one of the banks of Lake Suviana”.

According to Reuters, divers recovered the bodies from the ruins of a turbine room about 9 levels (40 meters) below the lake. The rescue ended on Friday morning (12 April), when the last bodies were found. The cause of the explosion, however, has not yet been determined.

On social media, Enel states that the plant was undergoing work to increase the plant’s efficiency. The fire started when a turbine exploded on the 8th floor below the surface, flooding the floor below. Now, Italian prosecutors are investigating the case.

The Italian giant created a fund of around R$10 million for victims and their families.

Enel Green Power is a renewable energy production unit of the Italian multinational that operates in the generation and distribution of electricity and gas and is responsible. In Brazil, the company is responsible for distribution in the city of São Paulo.
