Cuban activists, students and social organizations called for this Friday (22) a large demonstration at the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribune, in Havana, in defense of Raúl Castro and against the United States offensive following the accusations presented by the Donald Trump government against the Cuban revolutionary leader.
The act was called by the Union of Young Communists of Cuba, the University Student Federation and other mass organizations and youth movements on the island.
The mobilization will take place amid the worsening crisis between Washington and Havana and will coincide with celebrations for Raúl Castro’s 95th birthday.
According to the call, the demonstration will seek to condemn “the despicable and infamous act of the United States Department of Justice” and reaffirm popular support for the Cuban Revolution.
The statement further states that “neither threats, nor blockade, nor energy siege, nor false accusations will be able to bend the will of an entire people in defense of their Revolution.”
The accusations formalized by the United States return to the 1996 episode involving aircraft from the anti-Castro organization Hermanos al Rescate, based in Miami.

The Cuban government maintains that the incursions repeatedly violated national airspace and that the island’s military response occurred within the right to legitimate defense of Cuban sovereignty.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated that the accusation “only highlights the pride and frustration” of North American imperialism in the face of “the unbreakable firmness of the Cuban Revolution and the unity and moral strength of its leadership.”
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla classified the process as a “farce” designed to distort the country’s reality and reiterated that Cuba will not give up “its legitimate right to defense”.
Havana also accuses Washington of politically manipulating the case to justify tightening the economic blockade and increasing threats against the island.
According to the Cuban government, between 1994 and 1996, dozens of formal warnings were made to the United States about violations of Cuban airspace by aircraft linked to Hermanos al Rescate, without any effective action on the part of the US authorities.
This Friday’s mobilization also occurs amid the increase in the United States’ military presence in the Caribbean, following the sending of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz to the region, and growing fears in Havana that Washington is combining economic pressure, judicial offensive and military demonstrations against Cuba.
