China condemned this Thursday (21) the accusations brought by the United States against former Cuban president Raúl Castro and criticized the use of judicial mechanisms as an instrument of pressure against Cuba.

The reaction was given by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun, after Washington formalized criminal charges against the Cuban revolutionary leader for an episode that occurred in 1996 involving aircraft from the anti-Castro organization Hermanos al Rescate.

Beijing said it “firmly opposes” the United States “abusing judicial means” to pressure Cuba. “The United States must stop using sanctions and the judicial apparatus as tools of oppression against Cuba and refrain from making threats of force at any time,” declared Guo Jiakun during a regular press conference.

The Chinese demonstration takes place amid Washington’s imperialist threats against Havana, following the sending of the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier to the Caribbean and the Justice Department’s indictment of revolutionary leader Raul Castro, 94 years old.
