More than 1.25 million passengers are expected to use light trains manufactured by Chinese state-owned CRRC Corporation Limited daily during the 2026 World Cup in Mexico.
The vehicles will operate in the three Mexican cities that will host tournament matches: Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara. In total, 115 trains will be part of the special mobility operation for the competition.
In the Mexican capital, Light Rail Line (VLT) trains will connect areas of the city to the stadium that will host the opening ceremony. The equipment was adapted to local conditions, including high altitude and the rainy season, with regenerative braking systems, silent ventilation and expanded accessibility features.
In Monterrey, Line 1 trains directly connect the transport system to the city’s stadium, while in Guadalajara Line 4 will allow access to the Akron Stadium through integration with the metropolitan network.
CRRC is the world’s largest railway manufacturer and one of China’s leading state-owned companies in the rail transport sector.
The presence of Chinese trains at the 2026 World Cup reinforces the expansion of China’s railway technology to international levels and its growing participation in large infrastructure projects in Latin America.
