“The last colony of Africa, the Arab Republic Saharauí Democratic (RASD) needs the recognition of Brazil, as an important country as a member of the United Nations (UN). Others 84 countries have already supported our sovereignty and, more than ever, the Lula government’s support becomes essential to overcome the decades of crimes and blocks imposed by the reign of Morocos and begin to build independently and begin to build our nation. ”

The statement is from Ambassador Ahmed Mulay Ali Hamadi, highlighting in an exclusive interview the relevance of Brazilian diplomacy advanced on this path, which sees as natural, since RASD was declared almost 50 years ago, on February 27, 1976, through the Polisio Front, a revolutionary movement that began the armed struggle against Spanish colonialism and that continues against Morocco. Currently, only 30% of the Western Sahara territory is released and ruled by the Sahauís.

“It was the same way with the organization for the Liberation of Palestine (PLO), whom Brazil first recognized and later embrace the state of Palestine. We were happy that the government was recently recognized the polisarial front as a legitimate representative of the struggle for self -determination of the Sahauí people. I believe that the recognition of RASD will be a consequence,” he says.

But while the international community does not take this important step, 600,000 Saarauís remain under the brutal Moroccan pitch, 260,000 in the refugee camps in Algeria, 200,000 in the territory and another 100,000 in exile, unable to enjoy their wealth.

As the European Court of Justice, the United Nations Department of Justice (UN), the movement of unlinked countries, and the African cuts, “the whole world supports the law of the Sahauí people for determination and independence, but Morocco does not accept because the interests of France, Israel and the United States are pronounced.”

But nevertheless, before the UN, RASD remains a “non -autonomous territory, pending decolonization” and awaits a referendum that the neighboring reign does everything to make it unfeasible, whether with phosphorus, napalm or thermobaric bombs, all internationally prohibited weapons.

Morocco uses for its own consumption and completely export the abundant fish and very rich fostat deposits. “They block us access to our riches with a wall of over 2,700 kilometers, more than eight million Minas and an army of 150,000 men,” said the diplomat.

To top it off, Ahmed remembered the “bombing aircraft against civilians, drones and chemical weapons prohibited internationally in the released territories.”

“Western Morocco and Sahara are different and separate beings”

The European Court has sentenced that “the Kingdom of Morocco and the Western Sahara are two different and separated entities” and prohibited the oppressor market the wealth of the country invaded, reinforcing the existing pressure to guarantee justice.

Overdue on the battlefield, Mauritania has taken away from the area she had invaded and today has diplomatic relations with RASD, just as almost all African countries.

“Our population is a little over a million, which will make us one of the richest countries in the world and, as our conception of life is distributive, socialist, we will make many people happy not only our country but among all peoples siblings,” said the diplomat.

Human Rights Degradation

The situation of human rights degradation in the western Sahara imposed by the Moroccan government is unacceptable, he denounced the ambassador. “These are punitive policies to cover crimes committed in our territory, where they impose a military block and an integral informative blackout,” said Ahmed, pointing out that the authorities of the occupation continue to prevent UN organs and rapporteurs, NGOs, independent media and observers to approach.

The report on human rights in the occupied territories of March 2025 is quite clear, emphasized Ahmed, describing the policy of devastated land, destruction of homes, tents burning, animal slaughter and pool poisoning, “with the misconception of removing us from our places and setting more Moroccan settlers with the invasion and illegal occupation.” “These are practices of oppression and violence, impoverishment and inanition, deprivation and exclusion, racial discrimination and collective punishment, so that the Sahauís do not enjoy basic social and economic rights,” he protested.

Moreover, with the worsening conditions of living in Israel, Ahmed continued, many of the Jews who had abandoned Morocco are returning. “They had left houses that the Moroccans occupied for 80 years. Now, the reign is expelling them to ‘return’. This has all increased poverty and unemployment, making the health and education situation more critical in the neighboring country. There are many people living in tents on the streets,” he said.

Leaders sentenced to life imprisonment

One of the priorities is international solidarity action, which in Brazil includes since lectures to mobilizations such as cyclists for peace in Bahia. One of our goals “is the release of the 100 political prisoners, some who have been behind bars for over 20 years and sentenced to life imprisonment.” Since prisoners are in prisons within Morocco, this not only makes it impossible for many families to see them but reduces the frequency of visits. There are also approximately 650 missing people, mostly women, who “we don’t even know if they are still alive.”

Ahmed considers it essential that the mission of the United Nations mission for the referendum in the Western Sahara (Minurso) is expanded and a component of human rights that allows them to perform “independent, impartial, integral and continuous monitoring” as well as repeatedly indicated by the UN Secretary-General in their successive reports.
