The Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, was attacked in a public square in Copenhagen on Friday (7). She was rescued and is doing well. The man who attacked her was subsequently arrested.
Although a direct link with the attack has not been proven, it occurred on the eve of the European Parliament election, which ends this Sunday (9).
Progressive leader Frederiksen fights to prevent the advance of the far right.
On her personal networks, the prime minister reassured her supporters and thanked them for their messages of support. She said she was shocked by the attack but was fine.
Brazil
The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) issued a note repudiating the attack and in solidarity with the policy.
“The Brazilian government learned, with consternation, of the aggression against the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, which occurred yesterday, the 7th, in Copenhagen.
By reiterating its firm repudiation of any act of violence, the Brazilian government expresses its solidarity with the Danish government and people and wishes Prime Minister Frederiksen a speedy recovery.”
In the same vein, President Lula, who met with Frederiksen in 2023, said: “I want to express my solidarity with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, who was attacked in a square in Copenhagen days before the European Parliament election. We cannot allow criminal behavior like this, which puts people’s lives at risk for mere political disagreement, to be the rule in the world. From Brazil, I extend my solidarity to Mette Frederiksen and all the Danish people.”
