Cuba condemned the extension of the economic blockade imposed by the United States. This Tuesday (25), the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, took to social media and commented that the new expiration date of the measure (September 2027) would be “confirmation that Washington persists in its objective of suffocating an entire nation”.

“The renewal of the so-called Trading with the Enemy Act until September 2027 is not a minor administrative act, but it is confirmation that Washington persists with the objective of suffocating an entire nation. This extension has come at the cruelest moment in the US offensive against Cuba in years.” The chancellor also classified the measure as “genocidal”.

The economic blockade against Cuba was imposed in the 1960s, during the John F. Kennedy government. Since then, all US presidents, regardless of the political spectrum, have maintained law enforcement against the island.

This year, the humanitarian situation in the country worsened, with even an increase in infant mortality. In 2026 alone, there were six rounds of additional embargoes on the island, due to decisions by the Donald Trump administration. Currently, according to Havana, there are thousands of containers with goods that cannot reach Cuba due to the embargo.

The inability to access basic food and health items has intensified the scarcity of supplies, which has put pressure on prices. Meanwhile, the Cuban government has been saying that the country will know how to “resist and win”.
