Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has been showing new signs that it is not going well. This Tuesday (5), the prime minister fired the head of Defense, Yoav Gallant. As reported, the reason would be a “crisis of confidence”, following a disagreement between the two regarding the attacks on the Gaza Strip.
To occupy the post, Israel Katz, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, was appointed, a position that should be headed by the former Minister of the Interior, Gideon Sa’ar.
According to reports, the relationship between the two had been strained for some time — Gallant was seen as an opponent within the government and was taking more moderate positions than the prime minister on matters relating to security, especially in relation to the attacks in Palestine. In Netanyahu’s assessment, “enemies of Israel” would have been indirectly helped by Gallant.
In one of the most recent disagreements, Gallant defended the recruitment of soldiers from the ultra-Orthodox community, while Netanyahu, supported by this sector, was against it.

At another time, the former Defense Minister would have criticized the way the government was combating Hamas, saying that the group is “rooted in people’s hearts” and that “anyone who thinks it is possible to eliminate it is mistaken.” .
After the decision, protests against the dismissal took place in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
In a post on social media, the Palestinian Arab Federation of Brazil (Fepal) recalled that both Netanyahu and Gallant “have arrest requests requested by the attorney general of the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
Another fact that caused strain on the Zionist government this week was the arrest, by the Israeli police, of a high-ranking advisor to the prime minister, who was being investigated for allegedly leaking confidential information to the foreign media.
The leak would have undermined an agreement that was being made to free Israelis held by Hamas since October last year. In addition to the advisor, three other people were detained as part of these investigations.
