Check out the step-by-step how to prepare your Milk Kefir using the ingredients below:
Ingredients
1-2 tablespoons of milk kefir grains
2 cups whole milk (preferably unpasteurized)
A glass container
A plastic filter or plastic sieve
An elastic band or a clean dish towel
Directions
- Place the milk kefir grains in the glass container.
- Pour the milk over the milk kefir grains in the container.
- Cover the container with a plastic strainer or plastic strainer, securing it with a rubber band or tying it with a clean kitchen towel.
This will allow the kefir to breathe during the fermentation process. - Leave the container at room temperature (around 20-25°C) for a fermentation period that can vary from 12 to 24 hours, depending on room temperature and personal preference.
The longer you let the kefir ferment, the more acidic and thick it will become. - After the desired fermentation period, strain the kefir using a plastic sieve or plastic filter to separate the kefir grains from the fermented beverage.
You can use a plastic spoon to help with straining. - Kefir grains can be immediately reused to make a new batch of milk kefir.
Just repeat the process. - The resulting milk kefir can be consumed immediately or refrigerated for later consumption.
You can enjoy it plain or add fruit, honey, or other ingredients to add flavor.
