Roberto Sánchez, candidate of the Juntos por el Perú coalition, spoke to the press on Tuesday (23) to denounce a serious disturbance in the electoral process of the second round of voting abroad, which, according to him, is turning into an ongoing fraud.
Sánchez explained that a resolution by the head of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE, in its Spanish acronym), issued on May 29 at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, modified the current regulations, eliminating the obligation to digitalize and scan the records immediately after the conclusion of the electoral process, a rule that was in fact followed during the first round.
According to the candidate, this change violated the inviolability of the rules, legal security and transparency, in addition to deregulating the mandatory transfer by diplomatic bag, which would have allowed the vote to be manipulated in favor of the Fuerza Popular candidate, Keiko Fujimori.
Roberto Sánchez reported that he filed an appeal for annulment ex officio before the National Electoral Board (JNE) to prevent the counting of these irregular votes.
The candidate warned that, if the electoral body does not resolve the issue in accordance with the law and transparency, rejecting the request for a recount, the fraud will have been completed and, therefore, he will not recognize any eventual government led by Ms. Fujimori.
Faced with this scenario, the leader announced that he will resort to constitutional rights and the inter-American supranational human rights system to wage a patriotic, popular and democratic resistance struggle alongside the social movement.
He also denounced the existence of political and judicial persecution against several social leaders and defenders of democratic rights in different regions of the country, who are being prosecuted for demonstrating in defense of their rights.
Finally, Roberto Sánchez called on all democratic forces to participate in a national day of struggle that will begin this Saturday, June 27, with a large concentration in Lima, capital of Peru, and which will later extend with marches throughout the regions.
The main objectives of this mobilization are to restore democracy in the face of the takeover of institutions, protest against political and judicial persecution and demand the release of President Pedro Castillo Terrones.
In recent days, dozens of citizens from the coast, the mountains and the jungle have mobilized in the capital of Peru in support of the Together for Peru coalition and its candidate, Roberto Sánchez.
