In a statement made this Wednesday (14), Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened to carry out new large-scale operations in Lebanon if his country’s government considers that the Shiite group Hezbollah is supporting Iran in possible new offensives against Tel Aviv.
According to Katz, Israeli military forces could attack the suburbs of Beirut and the areas of Nabatieh and Litani. Furthermore, he admitted that an operation of this magnitude could cause the displacement of up to one million people.”
“If Hezbollah joins Iran in an attack against Israel, it will receive a severe blow”, highlighted the minister of the Zionist government, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The statement came after an inspection of military positions in Lebanon and Syria, accompanied by senior commanders of Israeli forces.
In the message, Katz also stated that his country had already planned the possible operation to permanently expand its territorial zone, within the neighboring country, including the forced evacuation of the entire Shiite population located up to the Awali and Zahrani rivers, as well as the emptying of the Dahiyeh district in Beirut.
Hezbollah announcement
Israel’s threat comes a day after Hezbollah Executive Council Chairman Ali Damoush announced a housing aid program aimed at displaced families who had their homes destroyed or partially damaged by the Israeli Army in Lebanon.
According to an exclusive report from Opera Mundia source from the Shiite group stated that around 50 thousand families will benefit from the program revealed this Tuesday (13).
The assistance provides a value of up to 14 thousand dollars for residents of the southern suburbs of Beirut, 8 thousand of which will be used to purchase furniture and another 6 thousand to pay rent. Residents in other parts of the country, including southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, will receive up to 12 thousand dollars, 8 thousand of which will be used to purchase furniture and 4 thousand to pay rent.
Last Wednesday (07), the agency Reuters reported that Hezbollah received $200 million from Iran to help families whose homes were destroyed or rendered uninhabitable during the war.
The news agency cited two sources linked to the Shiite party with full knowledge of the transfer. However, US State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott disputed the information, stating that the money “does not exist” and accusing Hezbollah of “trying to save face”.
