The G7 countries decided to turn to the new offensive of Israel in the Middle East. Gathered in the Canadian rock mountains between Monday (16) and Tuesday (17), the United States, Japan, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and Canada issued a joint statement that, while asking a “broken” between Israel and Iran, exempts Tel Aviv of responsibility for hostilities and hard teheron attacks.

“We claim that Israel has the right to defend itself,” says the text, adding that Iran “can never have a nuclear weapon.” For the Iranian government, the group’s rhetoric is “unilateral” and “denies the reality of the facts”. In a statement, the country’s Foreign Ministry questioned, “Does Iran really have another choice besides defending itself from cruel aggression?”

Civil deaths and nuclear target attacks: complicit silence of the powers

According to data from the Iranian Ministry of Health, at least 224 people (most civil) died in the country since the Israeli offensive. In Israel, 24 people died in Iranian retaliation – including eight victims in drone and missile attacks. However, the G7 statement completely ignored the Iranian victims, attacks on residential neighborhoods and explosions that hit state television facilities and emergency services in Tehran.

In addition, Israel bombed Iranian nuclear facilities – considered by the AIEA as part of a civil power generation program, although Western countries accuse the Iran of military ambitions. Irresponsibly, G7’s response reinforces and legitimates the Israeli narrative, ignoring what Tehran classifies as “illegal attacks on our peaceful nuclear infrastructure.”

An appeal to international legality – ignored

The Iranian government drew attention to the double standard adopted by the Western powers: “G7 Member States, especially those who make up the UN Security Council, should assume their legal and moral responsibility in the face of a blatant act of aggression against a UN member.” For Iran, the omission of the G7 violates the principles of the UN letter and reinforces an international order marked by political selectivity.

While asking for a ceasefire in Gaza-where Israel has already killed more than 37,000 Palestinians in eight months of war-the G7 refuses to apply the same criteria to the Iranian case and omit that the current crisis was detonated by an Israeli attack against Iranian diplomats at Syria’s embassy in Syria.

G7: Defender of Peace or Shield of Status Quo?

The G7 summit in Canada was announced as an attempt to restore unity among the powers in the face of global crises from Ukraine to the Middle East. However, the bias shown in the Iran-Israel conflict launches doubts about the group’s real commitment to peace and multilateralism.

The absence of criticism of Israeli acts and the legitimation of military actions against civil nuclear facilities – without international determination or condemnation – reveal a G7 more concerned with defending their strategic allies than in promoting justice and stability.

Trump leaves summit before the end and returns to the US: “obvious motifs”

The meeting was still marked by an early departure from Donald Trump. The US president abandoned the summit before closing claiming “very important motives” in the United States. The gesture was interpreted by observers as a sign of disinterest or that the US government already considered fulfilled its main role: shielding Israel of criticism in the final statement.

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said only that the Republican would return to “resolve important subjects” without details.

There were huge expectations of pressure on Trump to retreat from his tariff over international trade. Most countries represented in the G7 are already subject to 10% Trump basic fare with more to come threats. European countries and Japan face additional cars, steel and aluminum rates.

Criticism grow: G7 is accused of feeding tension, not containing it

For Analysts and Diplomats from the Global South, the position of G7 only intensifies the perception that the group acts as a club of the North Powers, without legitimacy to mediate conflicts that require balance and dialogue. It is a posture of guardianship and domination disguised as a peace appeal, as defined by non -aligned diplomat.

Meanwhile, the Iranian people live with explosions, fear and queues in gas stations. The G7 has asked, but its statement served to expand tension – and showed that the western powers are not interested in justice, but only in keeping the scale hanging to its side.
