Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran’s military forces demonstrate to the world that the United States is “not a superpower.” The statement was made this Saturday (18), in a publication on the social network X, in which the minister reiterated the thesis of resistance amid the American offensive.

“We don’t see them as a superpower and we have already shown the whole world that they are not,” he declared. Earlier, Araghchi also took a stance on the seven consecutive nights of US attacks on Iran’s coastal infrastructure, resulting in civilian deaths.

“They were completely innocent, and we will never allow their blood to be shed in vain. Iran is our homeland, from north to south and from east to west. We will defend every inch of our territory until our last breath”, published the minister.

This Friday (17), the US confirmed the new round of attacks against Iran, in which the targets were coastal infrastructure near the Strait of Hormuz, radar installations, energy systems and strategic locations, such as bridges and railways.

Iranian experts consulted by CNN claim that the offensive represents a new focus for US forces. For analyst Hamidreza Azizi, recent actions seek to weaken Iranian forces, gain more control over the Strait of Hormuz and even serve as preparations for future land operations.

In parallel, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed to have struck US targets in neighboring countries, such as military and intelligence bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and the Gulf region. Iran also reported that two oil tankers were hit by mines near the Strait of Hormuz. The information was denied by the White House.

The secretary-general of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, expressed concern about new attacks in the war in the Middle East. He highlighted concern about recent bombings against civilian infrastructure.

Deputy UN spokesperson Farhan Haq stated at a press conference in New York that Guterres classifies these recent attacks as “unacceptable” and that the secretary-general defends the diplomatic path to build a peaceful and lasting solution in the region.
