The Cuban government reported that it requested a session of the United Nations General Assembly to denounce the damage caused by the blockade imposed by the United States on the island.

As explained by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno RodrĂguez Parrilla, during a press conference held this Tuesday (30), the session will take place on July 7th, at the UN headquarters in New York, and will be dedicated to denouncing the intensification of aggressive actions by the US government against Cuba.

Havana will denounce the energy siege imposed by Washington since January this year, as well as the escalation of White House aggression against the island throughout this period. Measures that have caused “increasing damage, deprivation and suffering” for the Cuban population, in the words of the ambassador.

Rodríguez stated that these measures can be classified as “an act of genocide, collective punishment and a massive, flagrant and systematic violation of the human rights of the Cuban people and international humanitarian law.”

“These are acts that cause damage and deprivation. Cuba is not, and cannot be, a threat to the national security of the United States, which is a major military and nuclear power. Cuba is not a threat. The blockade is,” he stated. According to him, the United States’ policy of aggression and hostility represents a threat to the existence and well-being of the Cuban people.

Furthermore, Cuba will denounce threats of direct military aggression. The chancellor states that the multidimensional aggression of the United States “does not represent a future danger nor a threat that is yet to come”, but rather “a crime against humanity in full execution”.

During the press conference, the minister also revealed the existence of documents that, according to him, Washington circulates in an “opaque” way among its embassies and that serve as a basis for putting pressure on diplomats and authorities from different countries. This is a pressure mechanism that the United States had already used last year, on the eve of the UN General Assembly.

Rodríguez mentioned three of these documents. The first, titled “It’s Time to Change Cuba,” argues that the island country poses a direct threat to the national security of the United States due to its alleged support for terrorism.

The chancellor explained that this document aims to intimidate people and entities through the extraterritorial application of coercive commercial and economic measures, with the aim of influencing the vote against Cuba.

Furthermore, he mentioned a second document, entitled “The regime must reform itself, do not vote with its propaganda”, which, as he explained, brings together a series of accusations designed to influence the next vote on the United Nations General Assembly resolution on the need to end the blockade against Cuba, scheduled for October this year.

The minister also made reference to a third document which, he said, attempts to present Cuba as a belligerent party in the war in Ukraine. He rejected these accusations as false and devoid of any evidence, denied the existence of foreign military bases on Cuban territory and recalled that the only foreign military installation on the island is the US base located in Guantánamo Bay.

Since 1992, the United Nations General Assembly has approved, annually and uninterruptedly for 33 consecutive years, a resolution presented by Cuba demanding the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
