Cuba and Russia consolidate strategic alliance with creation of joint biopharmaceutical company

Health authorities from Russia and Cuba announced the creation of their first joint venture in the biopharmaceutical sector, an unprecedented event in the history of bilateral relations between the two countries. Eulogio Pimentel, first vice-president of the Cuban state corporation BioCubaFarma, emphasized that the ambitious project represents a significant step in scientific and technological cooperation between Moscow and Havana.
The fundamental objective of this strategic alliance is to promote biotechnological development, the sovereign production of innovative medicines and the exchange of advanced knowledge in the area of public health. In this geopolitical context, the active participation of initiatives linked to startups incubated on the technological platform of the main innovation hub in the Russian Federation stands out.
Currently, scientific collaboration includes several Cuban-made medicines that are already duly registered and in clinical use in the health system. Among them, Heberprot-P stands out as a unique medicine in the world for the effective treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, avoiding amputations in thousands of patients.
The joint portfolio also includes Hebermin, a growth factor cream widely used to treat serious ulcers caused by burns, and CIMAher, a therapeutic vaccine for the treatment of lung cancer. These cutting-edge treatments are complemented by Jusvinza, a medicine successfully used to treat serious inflammatory processes and immunological diseases.
One of the newly formed company’s most important joint venture programs is the development of HEBERPROVAC, which focuses on advanced cancer therapies. This new initiative is part of the strategic cooperation agenda established by the governments of both countries to combat the blockade and Western sanctions.
The scientific and technical agreement complements mutual exchange agreements between Havana and Moscow in other priority sectors for social well-being, such as energy, transport, tourism and higher education. With this achievement, the people of Cuba and Russia reaffirm their technological sovereignty in the face of international pressure, guaranteeing the human right to health.
