Ingredients
2 large apples, peeled, peeled and cut into small pieces
2 tablespoons of lemon juice
2 cups of wheat flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
1/2 cup softened butter (1 stick)
1 cup of sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
1/2 cup of milk
1/2 cup walnuts or chestnuts (optional)
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.Â
Grease a cake pan with butter and sprinkle with flour, or line with baking paper. - In a small bowl, mix the apple pieces with the lemon juice and set aside.
- In another medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using).Â
Reserve. - In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and creamy.Â
This can be done with an electric mixer or manually with a whisk. - Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.Â
Mix in the vanilla essence. - Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture, alternating with the milk.Â
Start and end with the dry ingredients.Â
Stir until the dough is well combined. - Add the chopped apples (and walnuts, if using) to the batter and stir gently to distribute them evenly.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and level it.
- Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for a few minutes before unmolding.Â
Then let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
