The Foreign Ministers of Venezuela, Félix Plasencia, and Brazil, Mauro Vieira, spoke by telephone this Thursday (13). The information was released by the Venezuelan diplomat on his social network account X. During the contact, the representatives discussed expanding the cooperation agenda and strengthening ties between the two nations.
Plasencia once again thanked the Brazilian government for its support following the earthquakes of June 24, 2026. Brazil sent rescue teams, health professionals and supplies to help the victims of the natural tragedy. The ministers also spoke about actions for the construction of housing and the exchange of experiences in training diplomats.
Another point discussed was integration in the areas of commercial and international cooperation. Mauro Vieira offered to share the work carried out by Itamaraty and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency with the neighboring government. Plasencia invited the Brazilian minister to an official visit to Venezuela with the aim of consolidating a common route sheet.
“We agree on the importance of advancing the exchange of experiences in terms of training our diplomatic employees. Likewise, within the scope of the merger of our Chancellery and the Foreign Trade portfolio, the Chancellor offered to share the work carried out from Itamaraty, considering the important Brazilian experience in diplomatic and commercial matters from the Brazilian Cooperation Agency”, wrote the head of Venezuelan diplomacy.
“Finally, I expressed the importance of your next visit to our country, a proposal that was positively considered by Minister Vieira, in order to advance a binational roadmap to deepen the bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite us”, he concluded.
Also in a note, Itamaraty confirmed the telephone contact and said that the ministers “converged on the importance of relations between Brazil and Venezuela and the commitment to continue intensifying cooperation and strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two countries”.
The dialogue marks progress in diplomatic rapprochement after a period of distance. The relationship was previously affected by Brazil’s non-recognition of the 2024 Venezuelan electoral result and by disagreements over the country’s entry into Brics.
Last week, a Brazilian delegation, led by the ambassador in Caracas, Gilvânia Maria de Oliveira, had already met with officials from the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry to discuss strategic partnerships.
