Brics evaluates uniting payment systems and CBDCs between countries

The Brics countries are discussing the integration of their fast payments systems and the use of digital currencies issued by central banks, known as CBDCs. The statement was made this Tuesday (11.Aug.2026) by Sanjay Malhotrapresident of Central Bank of Indiaduring an event held in Mumbai.

According to the g1the objective is to facilitate payments between the bloc’s countries and reduce costs in international transactions. THE BC (Brazilian Central Bank) is already working on evolving Pix for payments beyond national borders, as shown in Pix Management Report 2023-2025released on Monday (10.Aug).

“Cross-border payments are an area of ​​interest for all of us, including the BRICS countries, as we believe there is great potential to reduce costs”said Malhotra. He added: “Several options are under discussion, but are still in the debate phase, including CBDCs and integrations between fast payment systems”.

The Pix Management Report establishes the integration of the Brazilian instant payments system with platforms from other countries, with the aim of making cross-border transactions faster.

“Both bilateral interconnections and participation in multilateral hubs are under discussion. These interconnections would allow international remittances and purchase transactions to be carried out with resources available in local currency in a few seconds”says the BC.
