President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called the President of the United States, Donald Trump, this Tuesday (2). In the conversation, which lasted 40 minutes, the Brazilian considered the removal of additional 40% tariffs on Brazilian products to be positive and highlighted the need to advance discussions on taxation for other goods.
“Both had a very productive conversation and discussed topics on the commercial, economic agenda and the fight against organized crime”, says a statement from Planalto. The two presidents agreed to talk again soon about the progress of these initiatives.
According to the statement, Lula indicated that the United States’ decision to remove the additional 40% tariff imposed on some Brazilian products, such as meat, coffee and fruit, was very positive.

The Brazilian highlighted that there are still other tariffed products that need to be discussed between the two countries and that Brazil wants to move quickly in these negotiations.
Furthermore, Lula spoke about the urgency of strengthening cooperation with the US to combat international organized crime.
“He highlighted the recent operations carried out in Brazil by the federal government with a view to financially stifling organized crime and identified branches that operate from abroad. President Trump highlighted his total willingness to work together with Brazil and that he will give full support to joint initiatives between the two countries to confront these criminal organizations”, concludes the note.
