The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, reported, on Monday (29), that rescue and humanitarian aid teams from 30 countries are in the country to help search for people trapped under the rubble after the recent earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5. Rodríguez confirmed that intense rescue efforts are underway in the affected areas to save lives.

“We visited the García Carneiro Stadium, where international response teams arrived to provide support. 30 countries, 3,681 rescuers, 1,086 tons of supplies, 27 vehicles and 118 dogs are reinforcing search and rescue efforts. Thank you!”, published the president on her social networks.

On Monday, a brigade from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, consisting of 174 rescuers and eight canine units, arrived in Venezuela. Additionally, experts from Cuba arrived to join the relief efforts.

The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Venezuela, Gianluca Rampolla, explained that the organization is coordinating more than 2,000 rescuers mobilized in the search for survivors. This large-scale operation continues the search after the first 72 hours of the earthquake.

The UN took over management of the search operation together with the Venezuelan government following the earthquakes that hit the country last Wednesday (24). The assistance plan includes emergency medical care, shelter installation, food aid, water, sanitation and logistical support for the storage and distribution of supplies.

Rampolla reaffirmed coordination with local authorities to optimize available resources. Furthermore, he emphasized the close collaboration with American rescue teams and clarified that the closure of USAID by order of Donald Trump did not change the positioning of the teams on the ground, specifying that the United States was the first government to announce funding for the emergency.

Among the countries that sent specialized personnel and formal humanitarian aid are El Salvador, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Peru, Paraguay, Spain, Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany, United States, Qatar, China, Vietnam and Cuba, among other nations that joined this great mobilization of international solidarity in support of the Venezuelan people.

In turn, the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, reported, on Monday, that the number of deaths rose to 1,719 and the number of injured to 5,034. He described the event as the greatest tragedy in the history of Venezuelan territory.

The report further detailed the existence of 15,866 people affected and a total of 22,619 treated in the hospital network, campaign care centers and triage points, thus consolidating the devastating impact of the earthquakes, while international assistance continues to be sent.
