Make your Pesto Sauce using the ingredients below and following the step-by-step preparation instructions.
Ingredients
2 cups fresh basil leaves, washed and dried
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1/3 cup pine nuts (or walnuts)
3 garlic cloves, peeled
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste
Directions
- Wash the basil leaves well and dry them carefully.
- Grate the parmesan cheese.
- Peel the garlic cloves.
- In a food processor, place the basil, parmesan cheese, pine nuts and garlic cloves.
- Pulse for a few seconds until the ingredients are well mixed and form a thick paste.
- With the processor running, slowly add the olive oil until the mixture is smooth.
- Stop to scrape the sides of the processor if necessary.
- Add salt and black pepper to taste.
Remember that Parmesan cheese is already salty, so add salt sparingly. - Transfer the pesto sauce to an airtight container.
If not using immediately, cover the surface of the sauce with a thin layer of olive oil to prevent the basil from browning.
