For your Meat Escondidinho to be perfect, use the ingredients below and follow the preparation instructions.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg of potatoes, peeled and cut into pieces

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

  • 1/2 cup of milk

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 500g ground meat (can be beef, pork or chicken)

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped

  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce

  • 1/2 cup peas (optional)

  • Salt, pepper and seasonings to taste (paprika, cumin, oregano, etc.)

  • Olive oil for sautéing

  • Grated cheese (Parmesan, mozzarella, or other cheese of your choice)

Directions

  • Cook the potatoes: In a large pan, place the cut potatoes and cover with water.
Place over medium heat and cook until the potatoes are soft and can be easily pierced with a fork.
    Drain the water.
  • Prepare the mashed potatoes: In a bowl, mash the cooked potatoes with a potato masher or fork.
Add the butter and milk, and stir until you obtain a creamy puree.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    Reserve.
  • Prepare the meat filling: In a large frying pan, heat a little olive oil and sauté the onion and garlic until golden.
Add the ground beef and cook until it is well browned and cooked through.
  • Season with salt, pepper and other seasonings of your choice.
Add the tomato sauce and peas, mixing well.
Let it cook for a few more minutes.
  • Assembly: In a refractory or baking dish, place half of the mashed potatoes in the bottom.
Spread the meat filling over the puree.
Cover with the remaining mashed potatoes.
You can use a fork to make a pattern on the surface of the puree if you wish.
    Sprinkle grated cheese on top.
  • Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Place the dish in the oven and bake for around 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and the inside is heated through.
  • Serve: Remove from the oven and let rest for a few minutes before serving.
Serve the meat stew hot and enjoy!
