President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva condemned on Wednesday (5) the proposal of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to take control of the Gaza Strip and promote the forced resettlement of the Palestinian population. In a press statement, Lula stated that the plan is “practically incomprehensible” and stressed that “who has to take care of Gaza is the Palestinians.”

ā€œThe US participated in the incentive to everything Israel did in the Gaza Strip. So it makes no sense to meet with the president of Israel and say, ‘We will occupy Gaza, we will recover Gaza, let’s live in Gaza.’ And where do the Palestinians go where, where are they going to live? What are their country? ā€Lula said in an interview with radios in Minas Gerais.

Lula also stated that the destruction in Gaza configures a genocide, directly blaming the United States for financing the Israeli offensive.

“What happened in Gaza was a genocide, and I honestly don’t know if the United States, which are part of it, would be the country to try to take care of Gaza,” he said.

ā€œWho has to take care of Gaza are the Palestinians. What they need is to have a repair of everything that has been destroyed so that they can rebuild their homes, hospitals, schools, and live with respect with respect. ā€

The president stressed that the only viable solution to the Middle East crisis is the creation of the Palestinian State, alongside the State of Israel, in a lasting peace agreement. ā€œThe world does not need arrogance, effects of effect. The world needs peace and tranquility, ā€he said.

In addition to criticism of Trump’s plan for Gaza, Lula mentioned that the United States lost credibility as international mediators.

ā€œThe US was sold as the symbol of world democracy, self -determined as a judge of the planet. A fable of money is spent on weaponry every day. It cannot now change suddenly from the country that sold the idea of ā€‹ā€‹peace to the country that sells the idea of ā€‹ā€‹provocation, disagreement, ā€he said.

Lula’s speech reinforces his clash position with Trump on human rights themes. The Brazilian president had already criticized the Republican in the past for his mass deportation policy of Brazilian immigrants.

At the time, Brazilians were sent back to the country on US aircraft, with reports of abuse and even use of chains on the way. Lula denounced the case as inhuman and charged explanations from the US government.
