First lady discussed initiatives for the Year of Women Farmers and reinforced her role as FAO ambassador
First Lady Janja da Silva said this Tuesday (July 7, 2026) that she met with the representative of the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) in Brazil, Jorge Meza, to discuss the organization’s actions aimed at women farmers and the institution’s planning for the coming months of 2026.
In a post on Instagram, Janja stated that the conversation focused on initiatives celebrating the International Year of Women Farmers and also her role as an FAO ambassador against hunger. According to the first lady, the meeting discussed actions to strengthen policies aimed at rural women.
“FAO has a fundamental role in building a world free from hunger, strengthening public policies, promoting fairer and more sustainable food systems and ensuring that the right to food reaches those who need it most”, said Janja.
Janja also defended investment in women farmers. According to her, valuing women’s work in the field contributes to food security, strengthens communities and helps build a future with more dignity and social justice.
“When we invest in and celebrate rural women, we are investing in those who feed families, strengthen communities and help build a future with more dignity, social justice and food security for everyone”said the first lady.
