Activists Thiago Ávila and Saif Abu Keshek, kidnapped by the Israeli government, were presented to the Ashkelon court, in northern Israel, this Sunday (3). The judges extended their detention for another two days.
According to the human rights NGO Adalah, which highlights that no formal charges have been filed against the activists, who remain detained under continuous interrogation.
Adalah and the International Federation for Human Rights demand their immediate and unconditional release. Brazilian Thiago and Palestinian-Spanish Saif were kidnapped in international waters by the Israeli Navy on April 30.

They were part of the Sumud Global Flotilla, which brought humanitarian aid to Gaza. The vessels were intercepted off the coast of Greece. Around 175 activists from 20 countries were detained, with only Thiago and Saif being sent to Israel. The rest landed in Greece.
The governments of Brazil and Spain already strongly condemn the kidnapping of their citizens.

In a statement, the Communist Party of Israel condemned the brutal affront to International Law with the interception of the Sumud Global Flotilla, as well as expressing solidarity with the activists and calling for freedom for those detained.

Freedom for activists from the Global Sumud flotilla
Once again, the State of Israel illegally and brutally violates International Law, while Israeli naval forces intercepted the Sumud flotilla boats in international waters, forcing and dragging other countries to bear the consequences of their violations.
The detention and torture of peaceful citizens of sovereign countries, activists for peace and solidarity who assume the responsibility that the countries of the world should assume to stop the genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people in the Occupied Gaza Territories and the West Bank, is yet another crime committed by this fascist government under the eyes of the entire world.
The CPI (Communist Party of Israel), on behalf of its Palestinian and Jewish comrades and supporters, wholeheartedly expresses its warmest greetings to the brave activists of the Sumud Global Flotilla, who defy the siege imposed on Gaza with means of non-violent popular struggle and seek to break it, remembering that murders in Gaza continue daily and humanitarian aid is still denied.
