The number of deaths caused by the two earthquakes that hit Venezuela on June 24 reached 4,930, according to an official bulletin released this Thursday (16). According to the president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, the disaster left 16,740 people injured and 17,907 homeless.

Damage was recorded in 856 buildings. Of this total, 190 collapsed completely. Rescue teams have managed to extract 6,462 people alive so far.

There were 128,324 families served. Of this total, 21,210 people remain in the 107 temporary shelters provided by the Venezuelan government.

The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, visited the Caraballeda region, in the state of La Guaira, one of the hardest hit, on the morning of this Thursday, July 16th. During the inspection, concern for the complete restoration of the city was emphasized.

During his visit, Rodríguez announced the promotion of financial support mechanisms for companies and producers that suffered material losses, as well as financial support for families whose income was affected by the catastrophe.

In El Junquito, Rodríguez announced the preparation of a master plan for the reconstruction of the city. Meanwhile, Venezuelan authorities began reconstruction and restoration work on houses in the state of Miranda.

In Caracas, capital of Venezuela, the José Gervasio Artigas Educational Complex facilities were converted into a temporary camp, a task carried out by the Treasury Bank. The space currently has the capacity to house 400 people, offering shelter for 121 families made up of adults, children, teenagers and the elderly.
