China defended this Wednesday (7) an “immediate and total ceasefire” and stated that it was against resuming the war involving Iran.
During a meeting in Beijing with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that negotiations must take priority and called for the restoration of safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Wang also stated that the international community is following the situation in the Gulf with concern and urged the parties involved to respond “as quickly as possible” to calls for stability in the region.
According to Chinese diplomats, Araghchi presented to Wang the developments in the negotiations between Iran and the United States and reiterated that Tehran intends to defend its national sovereignty while seeking a political solution to the conflict.
The Iranian foreign minister also praised Chinese efforts to prevent the spread of war in the Middle East.
