Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, visited Beijing this Wednesday (7), on his first trip to China since the start of the war led by the United States and Israel against the Persian country.

During a meeting with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Chinese diplomacy once again defended negotiations, ceasefire and stability in the Strait of Hormuz.

“China believes that achieving a comprehensive ceasefire is an urgent priority, while a resumption of hostilities would be even more undesirable,” Yi said.

The Iranian foreign minister stated that Tehran will continue to defend its national sovereignty in the face of the military offensive led by the United States and Israel, but reiterated the country’s willingness to seek a political solution through negotiations.

“Iran will firmly defend its national sovereignty and dignity, while continuing to build consensus through peaceful negotiations towards a comprehensive and permanent solution,” Araghchi said.

Abbas Araghchi also praised Chinese action in the Middle East and said that Iran expects Beijing to continue playing an “active role” in reducing tensions and ending hostilities.

“Iran places its trust in China and hopes that Beijing will continue to play an active role in promoting peace and ending hostilities,” the Iranian said.

The chancellor reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and reinforced the strategic partnership between Tehran and Beijing.

The visit takes place just days before the planned summit between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping in Beijing, scheduled for May 14th and 15th.

The war against Iran, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and negotiations on regional security should be among the main topics of the meeting between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies.
