Ingredients
500g meat (usually filet mignon, rump or other tender meat), cut into thin strips
1 medium onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
2 tablespoons of butter
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
200g sliced mushrooms (optional)
1 tablespoon of ketchup
1 tablespoon mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup of cream
Salt and pepper to taste
Straw potatoes or white rice to serve (optional)
Directions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter with the oil over medium-high heat.
Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until golden. - Add the cut meat to the pan and cook until it is well browned on the outside, stirring occasionally.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. - If using mushrooms, add them to the pan and sauté for a few more minutes until they are soft.
- Add the ketchup, mustard and Worcestershire sauce to the pan, mix well and let it cook for a few more minutes.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and add cream.
Cook for a few more minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce is heated through and blended. - Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if necessary.
- Serve the Stroganoff with straw potatoes or white rice, if desired.
