“We see that thanks to the leaders, Russian-Chinese relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction have reached an unprecedented level, without any exaggeration. And with the re-election of Vladimir Putin, their comprehensive strengthening will continue, with additional guarantees,” he said.
The chancellor reinforced that the connection between the two countries is based on the principle of dialogue and goes beyond “political-military alliances of the Cold War”.
“Our strategic partnership is based on the principles of respectful, egalitarian and trustworthy dialogue, of mutual support on issues that affect the fundamental interests of our countries. And cooperation surpasses, as our leaders have stated more than once, political alliances -Cold War military and is not directed against third parties”, noted the minister.
The Russian Foreign Minister took advantage of the press conference after the meeting with Wang Yi to reinforce criticism of the US and the West, highlighting the defense of a multipolar world, an agenda that unites Moscow and Beijing in the current international situation.
“The issues being resolved by Russia and China directly relate to the struggle to establish a fair multipolar world order, where there is no place for dictatorship, hegemony, neocolonial and colonial practices,” Lavrov said, adding that such practices are “used with all their might” by the USA and the countries of the collective West.
When addressing the war in Ukraine, the Russian minister praised the proposal presented by China, which provided 12 points for resolving the Ukrainian conflict, comparing it with Volodymyr Zelensky’s plan.
“We confirm with our Chinese colleagues the conclusion about the futility of any international events, which not only do not take into account Russia’s position, but completely ignore it and promote an absolutely empty ultimatum, the ‘Zelensky peace formula’, and They are, therefore, completely separated from any reality”, he emphasized.

In November 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a G20 summit, listed conditions for the “Ukrainian peace formula”, including the restoration of “Ukraine’s territorial integrity”, control over the Crimea region, and the withdrawal of Russian troops from its territory. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, “Zelensky’s formula represents, in essence, Russia’s surrender.”
The Chinese proposal, presented in February last year, envisages the end of hostilities, the resumption of negotiations, the abandonment of the Cold War mentality, the reduction of strategic risks and respect for the sovereignty of all countries. At the time, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, declared that Kiev does not agree with several points of China’s document on the war, emphasizing that Ukraine sees isolation from Russia as a priority.
Serguei Lavrov also met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, who positively assessed “the state of Russian-Chinese relations, which continue to develop dynamically in the context of a difficult situation in the world.” He also highlighted his readiness to continue “building a comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction with Russia.”
The meeting between Lavrov and Xi Jinping was held behind closed doors and there was no press conference between the two leaders. The Russian Foreign Minister’s agenda in China was preceded by US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who was in Beijing the day before and described and issued a warning to Beijing regarding support for Russia’s war against Ukraine, but described her trip to China as productive.
