Armed Israeli settlers and Israeli Armed Forces soldiers killed four Palestinians in the village of Tal, southwest of Nablus, in the West Bank, this Friday (24). In the action, two Israelis also died.
Shortly after the attack, Israel ordered the closure of access to Nablus, storming the city’s main hospital. Amid the escalation, Israeli authorities arrested injured people and announced a large-scale military operation in the north of the territory.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs defined the attack as a “massacre” and noted that the action represents “a renewed image of the Nakba [em referência ao êxodo de centenas de milhares de palestinos na guerra Árabe-Israelense do final dos anos 1940] ongoing.” The ministry demanded international intervention to contain the settler violence.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed that four other residents were injured, three of them in critical condition. The village of Tal is just a few kilometers from Havat Gilad, an Israeli settlement considered illegal.
The Israeli Army stated that it had received reports that Israeli civilians who were hiking near the village had been attacked. Subsequently, a Palestinian allegedly took the gun from a Havat Gilad security agent and shot at the group.
The security forces, according to the Israeli Army, killed the gunman, recovered the weapon and began searching for possible accomplices.
Only this Friday (24), settlers attacked five villages around Nablus, according to information from the Palestinian agency Wafa, setting fire to at least six houses.
Israel took the opportunity to announce preparations for what it called “extensive anti-terrorism operational activity” in the sector, canceling soldier leaves, installing roadblocks and enacting a curfew. In recent weeks, the Israeli military leadership has been withdrawing troops from Lebanon and Gaza to reinforce the West Bank.
In a statement released after today’s actions, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that security forces “must be allowed to act freely and with full force against terrorism”, confirming that the government will accelerate the establishment of agricultural outposts.
So far, 86 Palestinians have been murdered by Israeli agents in the West Bank in 2026, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, which points out that 21 deaths occurred due to the actions of settlers.
