The Single Dwelling Registry begins this Thursday (23), in the temporary camps in Caracas, capital of Venezuela, to help families affected by the double earthquake of June 24. The announcement was made during a meeting attended by the First Vice-President of the National Assembly, Pedro Infante, and the Mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez. The meeting took place at the Guayana Esequiba Cultural and Sports Complex, located in the parish of San Bernardino, municipality of Libertador.
The program will be extended to the state of Miranda starting this Saturday (25). Assistance will be provided in phases: it will start in the camps and then extend to families relocated to other parts of the country or staying with friends.
In the case of the municipality of Chacao, publicity efforts will be coordinated with Mayor Gustavo Duque, due to the relocation of families to hotels. It was also specified that the census will consider each affected housing unit regardless of the number of families residing there, using data validated in the developed system.
This process continues the attention previously dedicated to the state of La Guaira, the most affected by the devastating earthquakes.
The president of the National Assembly and head of the Temporary Camps General Staff, Jorge Rodríguez, highlighted that the use of the fingerprint system speeds up data collection to quantify the construction of necessary housing and meet priorities in labor and medical issues.
According to the president of the Venezuelan parliament, the government’s main objective is to guarantee permanent housing solutions and ensure the accuracy of the census of those affected. On Tuesday (21), more than 240 families affected by the earthquakes received fully furnished homes from the government in Fuerte Tiuna, a military complex located between the parishes of Coche and El Valle, both in the southern zone of the municipality of Libertador, in Caracas.
On that day, Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, announced that 4,000 homes would be delivered this year to earthquake victims, while plans were underway to exceed 10,000 housing solutions by 2027, through the completion of pending works, the purchase of properties on the secondary market, the review of land use and reforms to the Law on Rental and Real Estate Guarantees to boost the rental market.
