Former governor criticized the stance of the Lula government and senator Flávio Bolsonaro in relation to the tariff proposed by Trump
The former governor of Goiás and pre-candidate for President Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) publishedin his account on X, a text in which he criticized the stance of the current government and also of pre-candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) in relation to the pricing proposed by the President of the United States, Donald Trump (Republican Party). In the message, Caiado states that the tariff will destroy “who feeds Brazil”referring to Brazilian agribusiness.
In addition to the possibility of US tariffs of 25% on Brazilian products, the former governor also cited 55% taxation by China and the European Union’s veto on the purchase of meat. On all 3 occasions, Caiado stated that there was “zero response from the government, only palliative care” before “agricultural attacks”.
In relation to Flávio, Caiado cited the senator’s stance of not asking Trump to withdraw the tariff, but rather just to postpone it: “For him, the agribusiness can go bankrupt, as long as it is after the vote”.
Part of the media has repeatedly reported that Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), pre-candidate for the Presidency, asked the United States only to postpone the tariff against Brazil. The document sent by the congressman in July 2026 to the USTR (Office of the United States Trade Representative), however, it presents a broader proposal: the suspension of the implementation of tariffs, which could come into effect on July 15, 2026, and the immediate opening of negotiations after the deadline – which would end after the elections.
RATES ABOUT BRAZIL
A decision of China was announced by the country’s Ministry of Commerce on December 31, 2025 and affects other exporting countries such as Argentina, Uruguay and the United States. The tariff was adopted, according to the Chinese government, after an investigation found that imports were harming the Chinese meat industry. The tariff was officially implemented on January 1, 2026.
I and decision of the EU to veto the purchase of meat from Brazil was made official on June 5th. The reason is the lack of proof that the country restricts the use of certain antimicrobials and antibiotics in animal husbandry. The measure affects other products of animal origin, such as fish, honey and eggs, and will come into effect on September 3, 2026.
The possible new US tariff was proposed by the USTR (United States Trade Representative), an American government body responsible for developing and coordinating the country’s foreign trade policy. The measure was introduced after an investigation under Section 301 of the 1974 Trade Act, in which the US government cited Brazil’s alleged unfair trade practices such as digital trade, Pix and preferential tariffs. The United States indicated that it should make official this Wednesday (July 15, 2026) the additional tariff of 25% on Brazilian products.
