The Venezuelan government released a new official report this Monday (14) on the impacts of the earthquakes that hit the country and the number of fatalities rose to 4,734.

In addition to the number of deaths, the country has 16,740 injured. The scenario of destruction is broad, with 856 buildings affected and 190 structures collapsed, leaving 17,907 people without housing. To deal with the homeless, 107 transitional camps were set up, currently housing 20,903 people.

The response effort involves the joint efforts of 30,989 personnel and 31,050 local volunteers, in addition to 2,471 international rescuers who remain mobilized in the territories.

The assistance logistics have been massive, with the distribution of more than 10 thousand tons of food and more than 21 million liters of water, while patients continue to receive medical care.

Dialogue with the opposition

Also this Tuesday, the Venezuelan government announced a new round of dialogues with a sector of the opposition. The current president of the National Assembly, Jorge RodrĆguez, announced the beginning of a ā€œjoint work routeā€ with former members of Parliament from the 2015-2020 period.

The group consists of a group of former deputies who do not have an official mandate and act as a parallel structure, which for years maintained political articulations with financial support from the United States in attempts to destabilize the government of President NicolƔs Maduro.

In an official statement, Caracas said that the initiative is like a milestone ā€œcalling for national unity to face the post-disaster and institutional challenges of the countryā€.

The government emphasizes that the focus of this new dialogue, which should begin on August 1st, would be ā€œreconstruction and maintenance of peace, at a time when international cooperation and internal stability have become fundamental for the survival of the population affected by the earthquakesā€.
